October through March isn't tourist season. American travel to Europe drops by about half, and most people with vacation days have already spent them on Thanksgiving or Christmas. Aer Lingus needed a reason for people to fly during the months nobody flies — and it had to work in an airline ad market where every campaign already sounds the same: destination shot, price, book now.

We put two ideas head to head. One leaned into spontaneity — the surprise of a random winter trip. The other, "Go When Others Don't," started from something simpler: the crowds people go on vacation to escape are usually the same crowds waiting for them overseas in July. That one won, because it gave us something to actually sell against. Not "off-season" as an abstract idea, but the Louvre without the lines. Barcelona without the bull. Piccadilly without the circus. Stout tastes better when there's no one elbowing you at the bar.
We carried that line across display, social, and radio. Radio played the trade-off out loud — open on the postcard version of the trip, cut to real crowds and real prices, land on the sale. Different formats, same argument every time: this isn't a discount pitch, it's a reason to go now instead of waiting for a season everyone else already picked.

"Go When Others Don't" became the spine of the whole September Sale — Ireland in wave one, wider Europe in wave two, running consistent across radio, display, and social.

The client was thrilled, and the idea kept growing past the original brief with new lines and executions, but it never drifted from the one insight that made it work: crowds are the tourist tax, and the smart traveler just doesn't pay it.
